August 15-2008.
Hi, guys sorry for the delayed posting. I had been looking for a video clip of independence day celebration in my town (NJ). But so far looks like nobody has uploaded a video or a photo presentation for 2008 celebration.
Independence days come and go each year. Being an American Citizen and having Indian origin we have taken our wife and kids for celebration of India ’s independence day here in USA and have taken them to celebrate US independence day as well. Question comes to kid ’s mind (which is purest of all BTW) ,kids who are born here , what are we Indian ? American ? what ? we celebrate American independence day on July 4th each year and then we celebrate India ’s on August 15th also.
In the end I realized answer is rather simple. I am an American but my heritage is Indian and I am proud of both, lately making it legal to be citizen of both countries by offering OCI (overseas Indian citizenship) any remaining doubts are now being eliminated. This is good news as Indians can now be citizens of both countries.
Not certain about others but I appreciate greatness of America (……something for all to think about), which allows immigrants to celebrate Independence day of their mother country while being in US. Not sure if India could allow and Indians could tolerate Pakistani/Bangladesh citizens celebrating their Independence day in India.
We are both fortunate and lucky to be able to celebrate India’s independence day in America. It’s a gift from one great country to another…….and we won’t be celebrating it if we did not LOVE OUR INDIA. So on behalf of all Indians in America (…I hope you guys share same feelings) ………….to our motherland……
